CHRIS DEMAS

Dojo-Cho

Chris first stepped onto the mat in 1998, beginning his martial arts journey with Shorin-Ryu Karate. Over the years, his training has expanded to include Takamatsu-Den, Iaijutsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai, but for Chris, martial arts isn’t just about mastering techniques—it’s about cultivating a mindset.

His teaching philosophy is built on the belief that martial arts are a powerful tool for personal transformation. At Kuroshio, Chris encourages students to develop not only their physical skills but also their character. Respect, discipline, grit, integrity, and honor are more than just words—they’re values that guide every class and every interaction. For him, it’s not just about learning how to defend yourself; it’s about learning to become the best version of yourself, both on and off the mat.

Chris’s ultimate vision is to create a martial arts sanctuary, a place where dedicated students can live, train full-time, immerse themselves in the arts, and grow into leaders of strong character. A place where the pursuit of mastery is not just about technique but about forging a life of purpose and resilience.

When Chris isn’t teaching, you’ll find him continuing his own training and pushing his limits, always learning and evolving. He is also a musician, father, dog dad, and loves to travel. He believes that the journey of a martial artist is never complete—there’s always more to learn, more to discover, and more to teach. It’s a mindset he strives to instill in every student at Kuroshio Dojo.

"Keep going. Never quit. See you on the mats."
