Kuroshio Jujutsu Tour

Kuroshio hits the road

Okay, so we have this crazy idea. Well we have a lot of crazy ideas but this one feels actually tangible. The world is changing. As it always does. And the notions of what's possible and what isn't are changing by the minute. Is it possible to have a mobile Jujutsu school? We think yes. Which is why we've decided to pack up and hit the road. We want to take Jujutsu to people that would've never thought to step foot in a dojo or martial arts school, or they've never had the time. Yes we plan to drop in as many schools that will have us along the way, and we hope to make a lot of new friends. However our main focus is going to be colleges, churches, businesses, and communities that have no schools near them to train at. It is our goal to spread the art to as many people as we can and to help them find local academies to continue their training.

We hope to build this into something bigger that will be like nothing ever done before. What if there was a martial arts festival? What if there was a martial arts tour? Where there were vendors selling their latest gear and respected athletes from all over the world in attendance? We believe through the strength of the martial arts community we can make this come to fruition.

Due to the lack of accessibility and our goal of providing a well-rounded curriculum to everyone we can, we are aspiring to take our knowledge out into the world and offer it up for those who may be less fortunate due to location or finances or to answer questions and get a feel for the sports realm before signing up to an academy full time. We would also love to help competitors hone their skills and provide women and children with knowledge and community to make them feel safe and supported from day to day. Unlike many clubs for both adults and children, Jiu-Jitsu has an open-door policy and strives to encourage better habits in all who come to train. We firmly believe our society can have fun while training and also learn to become a more competent and safer parent, spouse, or teacher. We don’t suggest you become a ninja warrior or a security elitist, (but we do) believe a small amount of training goes a long way. And a lot of training makes you a highly competent individual in whatever you choose to pursue. We would love to come to train with you at your local church, college, or municipal center. Don’t worry, we will bring the mats.

Why the Pros of Training as an Adult Outweigh the Cons

There are two main reasons I decided to start training again when I was 29 years old. First, I noticed my mobility at work and during recreation was at an all-time low. I had been lifting regularly, sometimes almost every day, in order to prepare for some intense ski trips. Over this course of time, I noticed that through some of my manual labor-based side jobs, I was basically useless on the ground, and even though I was strong in the gym, I couldn’t move around with any agility when needed to accomplish something on the ground, like work under a vehicle or work on a home.

Secondly, my neighbor, in her late 60s, slipped on some ice and was killed. My dad's family has known her since he was a young man, and my family has known her for decades. Yes, she’s lived a full life, but if she had known or trained her mind to be aware of how to fall, maybe, just maybe, that injury's significance could have been lessened or even prevented. I am not here saying "JuJutsu is a cure-all" (even though the often overused phrase “jujutsu saved my life” can have some relevance), but it does offer a multitude of positives. A strong sense of self-awareness, self-preservation, and mindfulness, along with strategies to keep oneself in shape and mobile in some of the most precarious situations life can throw at you, With the knowledge of how to fall, how to maintain balance when walking or when footing is unsure, and how to roll, jump, or leap on to or out of the way of something, you can minimize damage to your body and allow you to offer much-needed guidance and protection to those around you. Like I said, JuJutsu is not a cure-all, but it does come with a mindset that will enable you to accomplish a great many tasks.
